About the Morecambe Victims Fund

GHOSTS: Morecambe Victims Fund

Cocle pickers on sands in channel

The patrons of the Morecambe Bay Victims Fund are Hsiao-Hung Pai, a journalist who wrote a series of pioneering articles about Chinese immigrants living in the UK, Nick Broomfield, director of "Ghosts", and Jez Lewis, producer of "Ghosts".

The Morecambe Bay Victims Fund aims to raise the £500,000 needed to pay off the debt of the victims familes. At present many of these families are unable to pay off this dept because they have lost the wage earner of the family. This has put them under enourmous pressure from the money lenders who have beaten and intimidated several of the families, and there have also been incidents of children being forced into prostitution until the debt has been paid off. Any additional money raised will be used to help families in similar situations.
